Those of you who follow my build thread are aware of the queer IP i ended up with. A picture to refresh your memory:



As you can see, what I've got appears to be designed for something similar to a bicycle brake cable rather than the thingie on the end of the diesel throttle cable.

Early VR6 throttle cables have a round end.

Worth a shot?

Other ideas?

As I recall, my gas Mk. II 85 and 86 CIS-L and CIS-e (same throttle body) use this same end on their cables. They might be about 6 inches short for your application....not sure. Neither car is currently being driven right at the moment and 70 miles away.
The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.

The kids who put 1.8T engines and whatnot in their mk1 and mk2 golfs say to use the early mk3 vr6 throttle cable (for that application) because it is longer?

I may have to find one and try it.

I've thought about modifying the existing cable or finding some way to stick the cable clip on the new pump but that stuff is starting to sound intrusive.

Edit: Guh. expensive cable. But yeah it's for late corrado vr6 and early passat vr6 and is much longer than the others.

Is swapping the lever not an option? I have a couple early 1.6 n/a levers off dead pumps just lying around; I'd be happy to give one to you if you think it'd work.
Green 83 Rabbit 4dr, 5 speed ACH trans swap, ported 1.6D mech lifter w/ vnt15, na pump w/ gov mod, gasser intake mani, 2.5" exhaust, bilstein sports and cut mk2 springs, ss brake lines, 14" vw bottlecaps

Doesn't appear to be. Not without machining what appears to be a Zexel LDA to accept it. There are protrusions that would have to be ground off, and virtually everywhere that the VW lever attaches will have to be drilled and tapped. Also the stud that the lever pivots on is not long enough for the VW-spec lever, so i would need to replace that as well.

Easier to find and purchase a VW-spec LDA.

I don't know exactly what is needed, but it looks to me like adding a cable holder and drilling for one of these would work with the original cable, no?

Well, I could bolt a ball stud to the end of the zexel arm, and i could maybe get rid of the zexel cable holder and find a way to attach a VW-style holder.

the VW cable holder won't bolt up. One of the bosses is there, but there's a protrusion further down that it runs into. I could find a way to bolt on half of the VW cable holder perhaps.

If you have stiff (maybe 14 gauge) sheet metal you could bend it to suit. It wouldn't take much to make a bracket.
