I'm getting more p****d every day. I purchased a supposedly drop in engine from Quality German auto, in the LA area, that in reality needed to be rebuilt. The turbo is bad & so is the ALT. Who know what else I'll discover that needs replacing. I just got the clutch & now the supplier says I need a different flywheel. The person to which I spoke said a 85-92 flywheel from either a Golf or Jetta will work. Is that accurate info? Will it bolt onto the AAZ crank? Will all this fit inside the 020 tranny I plan on using? Hell, I could have bought a complete running & roadworthy 1.6TD Caddy for less than what the POS 'drop in' cost. I already knew there were things I was to have to modify, like altering some of the sheet metal & passenger side engine mount. Anybody have a check list of everything that has to be done to do this conversion?

Fly should be from a 83-93 Jetta 1.8L gas, 85-93 Golf 1.8L gas, this is mine...

Fits fine, 020 trans same gas/diesel, mine has a (verified) correct timing mark, but check yours while it's out just to be sure.
Other than the exhaust and t-belt covers, I don't remember mine being much of a hassle really.
027 105 271 R looks like a current gasser PN. The numbers are rough to track on those flywheels.
Is the 273D a reference for the diesel? The guy, I spoke with, said the diesel flywheel would have the 'correct' timing marks. Do you agree with that? Will a gasser flywheel be a lot lighter?
Unsure, I suspect this one is a diesel flywheel since the timing slot matches and it seems to only show up FS in Europe, I know people use the easier to find gas version with no trouble other than marking TDC, don't know on the weight. I didn't weigh this one when it was out last, thinking about it I believe it came with the motor from Overland years ago.
FWIW the 027105271R is listed as 11lbs or so.
http://www.gowestyautoparts.com/OEM/oemSearch.aspx?search=027105271RI'm 99% sure it'll work, just verify TDC when installing.
I just don't buy engines from Quality German in Souther California. That usually solves the problem. You can use any of the later model 020 flywheels. It all depends on what tranny you are running. Do you have the big or small input shaft? Since you have a Diesel engine the heavier the better when it comes to flywheels. When I built my AAZ I used a new 020 flywheel for a ABA engine. 93-98 vintage. I used a heavy duty 16v pressure plate and the clutch disc was a spec clutch from USRT designed for large input shaft transmissions.
shorttimer, sent you a PM, just in case this thing isn't working right yet..
just curious, the people that sold you the engine didn't agree to atleast swap it for another?
