The Shakes...

its nothing new, but its becoming rather annoying...

i've been having intermittent 'vibration' in the steering wheel, when travelling in excess of 65mph.  i'm starting to think that its the road surface, since it does that with my gasser V8 pickup (which has a solid front axle), but wanted to throw it out and see what others think.

again, its intermittent but always at highway speeds.  i'm not sure if its a tire that's out of balance, or something in the suspension.  i know the shocks probably needs replacing, as well as the camber on the pass side front needs to be corrected (since the inside of the tire is excessively worn).  I'm sure i'm missing something, i sure can use everyone's collective knowledge.

i'm about to start driving it a lot more, and would like to sort out the bugs before it becomes a problem (especially a problem miles from home).

I dont know if this helps but I get the exact same thing on my car and so far I have replaced the front struts, mounts and springs (were worn anyways) and it still shakes. There is only 2 more things I need to do, replace the ball joints because there is alot of play in both and get an alingment done. When I replace the ball joints I will give it a quick rip around and see if the shaking is gone.

You need to check the control arm bushings the "hockey puck" rear bushing is probaly worn

Don't hold on to the wheel so tightly.  Works everytime

Try rotating your wheels front to rear, and see if that changes the amount of the vibrations.  If it helps, you likely have one or more unbalanced wheels/tires.  Usually an unbalanced wheel/tire will not have any noticeable effects at lower speeds, but will cause shaking at higher speeds that gets worse as you go faster.
