Years ago when I was an AAZ guy, I purchased a couple of core AAZ engines (crank pulley problems). I rebuilt one as my insurance policy against my own "QuickTD" failing, which it never did. I'm now a hardcore PD TDI guy and I don't really see myself using these engines on any future projects.
The "good" engine,
Block originally had ~150000km, died of bent valves due to crank pulley falling off
Welded and remachined crank to accept TDI pulley (I did this as a business several years ago, some here may remember)
New lifters, new valves. This is an older 8mm stem, dual spring head. Better for stupid high boost.
New bearings thoughout. Crank, rods, proper diesel thrust washers, all kolbenschmidt
All new rod/main bolts
New intermediate shaft bearings
New rings
All new seals and 3 hole head gasket
New timing belt and tensioner
Has a good K03 turbo
Engine was assembled, prelubed and put into storage for the last 6-7 years, never run
I have turned it over regularly to distribute oil and prevent bore rusting
I could probably arrange to fire it up for anyone seriously interested
I am out of the loop on AAZ prices, open to offers, probably should get $1000 at least?
The core engine,
1.9AAZ late model single spring 7mm stem head
Died of crank pulley failure, unrepaired. Crank nose is damaged but repairable
around 300000km, but you wouldn't know it from the block, very little bore wear
Needs head work, at least 4 valves/lifters, guides, Maybe cam and possible lifter bore work
Engine is incomplete, long block only, head is off for inspection

Local pick up only please, I won't be arranging shipping, I am way too busy... Engines are stored in Hensall ontario, 40 minutes north of london. About 1.5 hours from sarnia/port huron, mi border for interested americans. I am an unmotivated seller. Don't need the money, I just think it's shame that this stuff is sitting, so lowballers prepare to be ignored.
Trades for TDI stuff considered, I have a B5/B6 fetish so BHW and audi/B5 passat stuff may be of interest. I need a complete front end for a 2003 audi A4 lock carrier forward. I'm setting up a new shop so other items MIG/TIG welders, a small press and other such equipment would certainly be considered as trade.
