Censorship on the forum?
« on: June 03, 2014, 08:27:53 am »
Now I have no problem with moderators trying to keep this place from becoming the vortex but at what point does it become censorship? For instance why is it that any time somebody says anything, literally anything a mod does not like the comment gets deleted or the user gets banned? I surely cannot be the only one who has witnessed this.

This site is one of the few sites where rudeness isn't tolerated. That's why I spend the majority of my forum time here.

I've never seen any moderator action that didn't come without multiple warnings.

I haven't witnessed it.

For instance, if I banned everyone that I didn't like their comments, the forum would only have about 4 people on it. It isn't about me or BYM or Red Rotors even, it is about trying to follow the rules set forth, listening to members who want more or less in the rules, and being the best knowledgeable site for our diesels out there.

Continue this thread, but be nice. We can all gain from this if you all are constructive.

sgrlord, I would like to know specifically what it is you have an issue with.

I've learned 2 things from vortex, oem+ styling, and how not to post on a forum ;D

Here, You ask a question, and it gets answered by people that want to help you, help keep your car running, increase performance etc. I haven't been here that long but from what i have seen, things here are in good hands. "Vortex type people" are quickly put in there place.

Keep up the good work guys :) we appreciate you providing us with such a fountain of diesel knowledge and keeping it clean :)

I have read much and posted little at this forum, but i like the way its "censored". The knowledge is superb and its possible to get help without 20 posts from people who are guessing or know less than me...

I hear more snivelling than censorship.
I am not nice to  those I feel are full of crap, and I don't filter myself beyond not using outright curse words and racist or personal attacks regardless of who is or is not a mod.
To my knowledge nothing I've posted about VW diesels has ever been deleted.

Moral of the story, grow thick skin, this is the internet.
To me,  'play nice' is maybe taken a tiny bit far, but the main problem is  people  getting butthurt too easily.

Personal attacks are a sure tale sign of a losing argument. I'm glad this place keeps things focused on topics and not just arguments about who is or isn't a "scruffy old nerfherder."

That is exactly what I try to do. I don't think eggshell softness is needed, but I don't cuss people out. If I have been getting pm's about someone and that same someone says something to escalate a situation, I remove it. If no one is reporting people, I let it go...same comment, same situation could pass is what I am getting at. At the same time I have pm'ed people back that say they want this person banned as they do "x" and "y" and I have said paraphrase "suck it up".

The most important thing to remember and you can ask those that have met me personally is : I am only a nice guy online, in person I am a real handful :D

i love the way this forum is handled, usually on vortex is someone wants to disagree with me on something i know is true i will let it go to save the *** show, but here i know that even if i am not 100% on something, there can at least be an intelligent conversation about why i am right or wrong, with out a bunch of people who never turned a wrench chiming in.

Well i feel no harm kicking someone in the sack when needed... I begged to have my acct removed instead of dealing with stupid anylonger....  I drew line... And always will... Being mods, a successfull forum owner... I know where line is...

Also... Gotta hate everyone evenly... Once a person shows a reason to want to associate with them is how i do it...   If your stupid... I just dont even read the crap spoke or typed... Got better things to do...

I'm not on here as often as most, but I like this forum far more than the rest, for all the reasons already mentioned in this thread.

Just want to thanks the mods that are doing a fantastic job. It's not always an easy one, to please everyone while keeping
the backyard clean, but if everyone do their parts, everyone will benefit of it..

I'm not here as often as I would like, stuck between 2 jobs, but, I agree that the forum keep the track that I want ; Knowledge
peoples, clean place.. since 10 years now ! Yep the forum, the new one has now 10 years.
