Im Building a 1.6td with an aaz head, so I'm looking for some direction with what notch size to run. Pertrusion is .95mm. Now, my question is, do I follow the thickness chart for the aaz (I want to run the metal gasket) or follow the 1.6td chart, and use that thickness with the aaz gasket?
I think it's a little confusing the way I'm explaining it, but any help is appreciated. Thanks

yeah the confusing thing for me is i thought there was a chart for 11mm engines and a chart for 12mm engines?
I used the 1.6 chart as that is the precups in the head you will be using. I think the main factor is CR and quench when selecting a HG. I don't know if there is a right or wrong, but I have done this a few times and I have used the 1.6 numbers each time without issue
Ok I figured I'd use the 1.6 numbers too, but the 2 notch from the 1.6 isn't the same thickness as the aaz ones right... so I'd have to just match the thicknesses

I don't know if the thickness is before or after compression, but if its before i would think that the aaz gasket compresses less than the 1.6 gasket?
My 1.6 had a 3 notch gasket that i replaced with a 3 notch AAZ gasket.. no issues that i know of:-)

According to VW:
1.6 (codes JP,ME, JR, MF,RA ) : 1.53 mm, 1.57 mm, 1.61 mm
1.9 (AAZ, 1Y) : 1.53 mm, 1.57 mm, 1.61 mm
1.9 (1Z) : 1.45 mm, 1.53 mm, 1.61 mm
So the AAZ head gaskets are exactly the same thickness as the 1.6 ones.
