Intercooler for sale---Sold

I have an older intercooler that I had on my MKII jetta. With some trimming of the core support middle brace it fit easily under the grille. It cleared my A/C radiator just enough...bottom line is it fit fine in the MKII, but the A/C was deleted.
Measures 28x7x2.5. I put 2.5 to 2 silicone reducers and T bolt clamps on that will go with it. It is the bar and plate style. New without the silicone or clamps look to be going for over 70.00 on Ebay. I am looking for 65.00 shipped to USA.

this is the exact thing that I bought. It is used and it doesn't come with the piping but does come with the 2, 2.5" T bolt clamps and the 2.5" to 2" 90 degree silicone reducers.

How do these compare to OEM intercoolers?

I have never had a GTD so I don't know what the comparison is. If you are talking using other mfg intercoolers as their OEM then I would say these are superior. The bar and plate design is more efficient than the tube and fin, also it is all aluminum construction. It worked for me, dropped around 300f on my EGT when I installed it. Air to water IC maybe better, but for the money this air to air is tough to beat.

I so wish I could drive a modified 1.6td to see if that engine is worth screwing with.  I'm not happy with mine stock as far as power with k24 or t3 and know there are options out there.

What I'm scared of is my mileage for my commute is not great in my 79 rabbit.  I'm only getting like 42-43mpg so am thinking the tdi is the route to take.

Before I intercooled I was getting 40-43mpg, after I went to 45-47mpg...once you keep your foot out of it as the new found power is fun. I think all of these TD engines could benefit from an intercooler and if you are going TDI, there is no reason not to intercool now and add TDI later.

I am interested. Do you happen to have a picture of how you had your piping routed? I'm curious to see how I would fit the piping in my jetta, while still retaining A/C.

To run a/c you would have to move the rad back some. Also some trimming of the core support is needed. Unless you want to run it under the bumper, then I don't know what would have to happen for sure. I just wanted it tucked in behind the grill

I can make all the hard tubing in 4/6 ply silicone, change the cooling fan toa flexalite and you would have a turn key kit

Install intercooler
install fan assy
shorten cooling hoses as radiator moves back two inches closer to engine
install four silicone hoses with two joiners

Perfect..

no heat soak..

i am curious if you took your turbo for sale and this intercooler and put it on a stock 1.6 turbo block/injectors/pump would it make a big difference with fifth gear being able to pull at 70mph?

if im reading right this would probably make stock clutch setup slip so i would be looking at $1000 project with head studs

42-43 is not very good for a 1.6TD in a light car like a '79 Rabbit. My worn out '85 Jetta got better mileage than that from a much heavier car. To be down on power and mileage sounds like you may have some underlying problem that should be cured before trying add ons.

How high is the compression?

How much boost are you running?

What is the IP timing set at?

Flow screw position?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Yes, if you increased the fuel accordingly 5th will pull. I don't know how much it would cost. I don't think head studs would be absolute if you didn't go over 25psi...you could wait to buy them until you had trouble. I don't know what the stock clutch will handle, but if you have an older 200mm it just may.

I ran Jezebel's 1.6td for 4 years at 23 PSI, no studs, stock head gasket, no problems. I had a good big intercooler though plus a 2.5" exhaust. Both are needed for the engine to live, studs or not.

I rescued this car from a field and rebuilt everything about a year and a half ago.  All stock offered vw turbo parts, timed just a hint under highest advance number in the bently.  I don't think I'm down on power, I do notice its just a tad pappier than my heavier chasis like the truck and mk2 jetta.   Fn tranny, stock tire height.

It does get a little less mpg than my other cars but they are driven on different routes.  I drive this and am pedal to the medal, 95% freeway.  I pretty much travel outside of rush hour so I'm normally driving 74 or so mph, and there are good bursts in the fast lane at 85-90



I got the 190 mm diesel clutch.  My egts will get nuts on sustained hill climbs.  Lugging in 5th is the worst and it has 1400.  STill getting 1300 at times in 4th gear pinned.  This is stock boost with t3 turbo.

If I got the intercooler on my setup do I have to up the boost/fueling or will I see improvement regardless?
