Goetze MLS AAZ head gaskets at Napa?
« on: May 15, 2014, 09:17:06 pm »
If you go to napaonline.com and tell it you have a 1996 jetta, search for a head gasket, then drill down by selecting just the cylinder head gasket, 1.9 Diesel, and supplier Altrom, it presents 3 head gaskets.

The part numbers are incongruous -- 028103383BB, 028103383BC, and 028103383BD for one, two, and three hole.

The thumbnails for the one and two whole show a Goetze logo, the third a Reinz logo.

All of them say "Metal" in the "Important Info".

These aren't AAZ part numbers that we recognize, but if you go to the jim ellis vw parts website and plug them in, it suggests the AAZ gaskets as a replacement.

If you pull up the Victor Reinz catalog for VW engines, here: http://www.reinz.de/pictures/NKW_VOLKSWAGEN.pdf

On page 10, you'll find these BB, BC, and BD suffix part numbers in the section for the 1X diesel engine, which appears to have been mostly supplied in T4 busses in the UK or something. The AAZ parts are listed as the MLS version head gasket for the same engine.

If you search for the BB, BC, and BD part numbers here, prior to my posting this anyway, all you get is fspGTD saying he ordered some and hopes that they work, but he never seems to say whether they worked?

i heard a rumor about that, but searching didn't find it for some reason.

Has anyone actually used one and told about it?

CrazyAndy and I both have them. They are Reinz IIRC.

It was the first post in the FAQ that wasn't a sticky

Autohaus az has 2 and 3 hole reinz. I have stunted pistons that are slightly below the low number for a 1 hole. Not happy about it, but press on i must.

It could be worse; you could be too high for 3 hole!
