Rockauto.com has a variety of m/c for a 92 jetta ranging from $27 for a no-name unit to $92 for a new beck/arnley. It'd probably be easier to do a return if you weren't pleased with the quality. IIRC some of the 'cardone' units from rock auto were rebuilt ATE at least for mkI.

FWIW, every non-ATE master cylinder I've bought for a european car in the last decade has been a piece of trash in one manner or another.
If you have time to possibly play musical parts till one works right go for it, if time and effort and longevity are a thing, cough up
the OEM dough.

Many things we do naturally become difficult only when we try to make them intellectual subjects. It is possible to know so much about a subject that you become ignorant.

Anyone have experience with this master cylinder and this Ebay seller? For $30 shipped, it must be made in China.

Don't buy this! I did  a few months ago and installed it last week. Tried everthing, spent about an hour but could not get the reservoir to pop in all the way. Had to take the MC out and put the old one back. Issue with old one was leaking from one of the reservoir bores in the MC due to a little rust  as I found after taking the grommets off both MC's. Measured both MC's with vernier calipers and found the new MC reservoir bores has slightly different dimesion on centers than the old one. I cleaned off the slight rust on the old MC, coated it with grease put grommets back and reservoir popped in easily. No more leaks.

For what it is worth:  I have done very well with O'Reilley's remans with lifetime warranty.
Have never had to exchange yet....I am very good about changing brake fluid intelligently.....been running some of them over 5 years. No probs. Keep the receipt.
