ALH engine swap for sale

For sale is a complete ALH TDI engine swap from a 2003/4 (can't remember) Beetle. This would be comparable to buying a donor car without having to strip everything and dispose of the shell.

Included:
-ALH TDI complete engine with all accessories and sensors as removed from donor. Approximately 85000 miles, pulled from a car that was hit on the B-pillar. Engine ran great with no problems at time of removal.
-Complete wiring harness with fuse panel, including every connection located forward of the rear passenger footwell.
-ECU
-Instrument panel
-Ignition switch with key
-Accelerator pedal

I'm not exactly excited to get rid of this but I need to drum up some cash. I also have the 6-speed trans, cable shifter, section of floor with shifter mount to graft into an earlier car, and CV axles available separately.

$3500. Price is firm.

Is that a good price in California? Up here, I could buy a car off a TDI car off a car lot for that. And I would have lots of other bits to sell off. There might be a dollar in this if the price gradient is steep enough. I have known guy to do that with Lancias and Peugeot diesels back in the day.

Dunno. I'm just trying to recoup my initial investment. The labor to disassemble and dispose of the remainder is a value-added service. It kinda sucks to have an extra car sitting around, stripped to the gills to extract the wiring harness, that you then can't easily move in and out of the garage by yourself. And the local pick-a-part yards won't even take a shell with all the good stuff already picked. I was lucky to find a service to remove the remains. Add to that the fact that I've not personally had much luck selling excess parts any time I buy a complete car to get a specific part, particularly with the hassle of shipping (shipping Jeep fenders cross-country was a major PITA back when I was into that stuff)... I'm sure the cost of a complete used car has come down a bit in the several years since I picked this one apart, but in that time the accumulated miles have gone up. Choose your poison.

Curiously, the only time I got any interest via local Craigslist is when I had the addendum stating that I may consider installing this in a customer's car, but those knuckleheads don't quite grasp the magnitude (aka cost) of a swap like that, based on my very unscientific polling.

For the record, KBB gives a used car, private-party value of $5800 for a base model 2003 TDi Beetle in fair condition with 85k on the clock. So no, I doubt you'll find a comparable donor car at my price.

IMO around here you can  get a TDI for $4000, and most have  something fairly serious amiss at that price, or will have a major blowup within a few months.
His price  is probably  a good deal with the low miles and  assuming a very complete swap package.
Including a working trans would make it a killer deal.

As far as   the whole car thing, a swap is always easier if you have the whole car.  Car bodies are worth $120/ton or so, and never any  trouble making money on them unless you don't have the title.

That's my slice of the Cali market anyway.
