counterweight on half shaft

Found a bad outer cv joint boot on the right side of one of my 92 Jettas today while doing an oil change. Went to my parts stock and found another shaft with a good boot on the outer, and a bad boot on the inner. The counterwieight on the shaft in the car was on the inboard end, the other shaft had the weight on the outboard end. Which one is right? Put the shaft together with the weight on the outboard end, seems to work okay............

Shouldn't really matter. It's more to absorb vibration, not to act as a counter weight.
