My 95 golf with 86idi motor
« on: March 07, 2014, 08:47:16 pm »
Here is my ride. Its a 95 golf that had a 2.0 until the timing belt broke and bent valves. So I decided to go with something that gets good mpg and was relatively cheap. I drive a lot for work so I needed mpg over speed these days. This is the first time I have ever done a motor swap for mpg over hp.

Here is what I started with. A 86 idi out of a jetta

Raceware Head Studs

Pulled the head apart

Didn't have the real valve spring compressor. So I made do with a standard pushrod motor one.

Gasket matched the ports and cleaned up the casting some.

My hightech porting station.

Old Motor Pulled out

Diesel sat in. Still need to add a motor mount. Using the 3 stock 2.0 mounts. Haven't decided on where I am going to add the 4th one.

Exhaust built.

4th mount? You only need the 3 stock ones...

It looks like you know what you are doing. Should be fun. I actually have the same car with the same motor sitting in my yard. It was a 1.8l though.

My 1.6td mk3 did me great till I eventually killed the transmission. Was plenty of fun to drive too.
