high egts after adding turbo to 82 truck
« on: March 03, 2014, 01:07:42 am »
i put k24 and turbo bits on a strong running na engine.

mk1 downpipe and stock exhaust which looks straight except muffler at the end

i have done this before in mk2 jetta and people talk of doing it but im not sure if the trucks might be more restructive?

i was getting up to 1450 floored up a hill and going nowhere in fifth with 9 boost.

i tried screaming it in lower gear and boost got to 12 with no help in egts.  goes through the roof when flooring

i got it timed to .040" with a pump that was working on another car and new bosch injectors

would love some guidance on whats up its my worst performing car, the others have t3 and have more power and lower egts.

im guessing cutting a muffler off or timing change isnt going to be enough?

Retarded timing will raise the EGTs.
You might try advancing it some and see what happens.

NA or TD pump?

sorry its a typical 1.6 turbo vw pump, all stock settings and vw manifolds, etc.
turbo bosch new injectors.

not seeing any smoke really but ill try timing, ive just never seen such a small bump in timing provide a miracle  like this truck needs. :)

in all gears but fifth my impression was ok performance but egts are still way high when mashing pedal everywhere.  im used to my other cars egt rising with pedal and work but car pulls and is revving out

Pull off the downpipe and see if it runs better?

Any chance the pump is 180 out?

Any air in the fuel lines?

dont think pump is 180 out i sealed it and have marked pully

i took exhaust off which let it end about where cab ends

advanced to .041

now its more like my rabbit, assume a tad off since its heavier?

got up to 1300 egt up a hill and it cruises under 1000

noisy and i swear it stinks inside even on freeway?

never seen advance like that transform performance so much?  for fun i guess i can try to put exhaust section on and drive but maybe ill see if i can cheat and put a straight pipe out the end

amazing how noisy it is and turbo barks every time i chop throttle

Have you checked the internal pump pressure?
