puking oil from the head?
« on: January 27, 2014, 09:47:13 pm »
Hello fellow vw diesel enthusiasts.  I have been suspecting for a while that I had a bad head gasket.  I kept blowing coolant seals on the block and the lid on the coolant resivour.  Well i went to change the valve cover gasket the other day and put the wrong one on.  I couldn't figure it out so i took it up the street to a mechanic who put on a cork one and cleaned up there area under the valve cover to make sure that it no longer leaked but there was still a ton of oil on the block which i thought was still on there from the valve cover.  I don't drive it that often so i parked it and notice a large pool of oil under the car.  I thought it was just left over from the valve cover so i checked the dip stick and i am bone dry so i added about a half gallon and drove it to get diesel, about 30 miles round trip and its pucking oil from what looks like head, from all sides of the head.  but its still drivable.  Is this possible.  Thanks for any input.
James

A picture is worth a thousand word, but if you don't tighen the valve cover  bolts on, oil will  certainly spill on all sides of the head and the ground.

sure it's possible that it's still running with bad leaks on the head gasket and valve cover.

but for how long?
