I'm doing an aaz crank nose repair [ AHU sprocket ] on a newly rebuilt engine with zero run time. This means I will be re and re the crankshaft. Can I reuse the main bearing bolts? Or are they a one time use stretch bolt?
This is not a high-pro rebuild, just keeping it in stock form.
I do have and will be using new connecting rod stretch bolts however.
Thanks.
They should be the 80mm long fully threaded IIRC and yes they are one time use.
Thank you.
I'll order them.
There are two different sizes of AAZ main bearing cap bolts.
For some reason I thought I was replying to the AHU thread...yes there were partially threaded 65mm long and the 80mm long full thread. IIRC the 65 are reusable, but the 80mm long are not.
...and in either case I'd go with studs...

even for a" stock" engine......any appreciable benefit over oem vw bolts?

Yes.
You can reuse them for sure, but the main benefit is that it will hold onto your main caps better. 2 or 3 guys here have cracked their main cap during normal operation.
I don't know. IIRC the bolts are M10-1.5x 65mm or 80mm so the studs would be the same only much longer like 100mm
