81 CADDY with AC - vent tube hose

I have a 81 Caddy that finally after 32 years the fan motor only works on high. This is the WITH AC system). No problem, have a new fan-motor assembly on hand. Have the procedures on-hand and printed.
Also, my heater ducts only emit heat on vent. Understand that likely my problem is bad vent hose. I have searched and cannot locate details on replacing vent tubes with new hose.
I intend to have all my questions answered and parts on hand before I start. I have heat and defrost; albeit with a little too much fan noise.
Several questions:
Where are these tubes and what size tube do I need on hand, before I start the job?
Anything else I should need?

Your are just talking about the vacuum line from the vacuum pump to the climate controls right?
There should be some under the passenger side dash for you to look at. red and yellow hard lines.
I get mine from the salvage yard since almost all cars use it for vacuum line.
Fan only working on high is usually an electrical problem, usually the switch burns up, noise is usually a fan bushing.

Did I word my first line wrong? As for the heater motor, I said I already have a new motor with resister on hand to install.
There is not a VW in a junkyard here in VA with a Mk1 in it, that I know of.
Someone has done this task on VW MK1 with AC before.
In review: 2 questions.
1. Is change from dash vent to floor vents by vacuum and tube or by cable? Read it is by vacuum.
2. If by tube, what size and what quality?

Probably didn't need a new fan motor if it's just only working on high. Probably don't need to put the new one in just for that,.. but you did mention it's noisey.
1. Yes the heater door flaps are controlled by vacuum if it's an AC car.
2. So you didn't look under the passenger side dash to see what they are using? red one and a yellow one.

Funny, I have seen everything else fail on these things but never the vac servos. Simple system though.
On a side note, if you have factory AC, last time I looked the cheap and common blower motor was incorrect.
The correct one was hard to come by. Be sure before you tear the dash apart to replace it.
Check the switch and blower resistor too, by preference, replace them all at once.
If you end up not having the correct motor, I used one out of a cabby or rocco or some such, think I had to rewire it or something.

Yeah, got a picture of the one you bought? Before you try to put it in.
I just went through this with a noisey fan on my '84 and none of the other heater fan motors I had would work,.. but inside parts were able to be swapped.
I was ammazed at how messed up it was. The armature was sliding down the mainshaft, the area the brushes rub on was all broken up.
and I was just expecting a bad bushing.

I have a brand new heater motor and a good take-out motor. Plus my never taken out motor.
Have compared the two and they look alike.
I always try and find as much out on a project before I do it as I can. Unlike most, I live in the country. Not suburbs. Country.
It's 1.5 hours to the nearest shop that sells VW stuff. Heck its 25 miles to the nearest part store.
I will waste 4 hours simply going to get a part. Makes you want to know what you need before you do the job.
Maybe I can clear a couple of pieces of equipment out of my shop and get it in during the holidays. NO hurry.
I have heat, no rush, its the AC season I fear.

No UPS, FedEx or USPS? I haven't bought any VW specific parts at a "parts store" in about 10 years

95% of my parts for my VW, and my tractors come by UPS, FedEx, USPS. But that entails the piece of equipment being torn apart, in some cases, waiting parts.
The drivers know all my projects and live vicariously thru my repairs. Obviously, as I run into people in the area, who ask about a project, and their source for the leak was one of the drivers.
However, on a job like this you don't want to tear it apart and wait. My shop is big, but not that big.

i been on vac away...
ac cars all vacume for vents.. cable for vave only..
german resistor an dblower different them us westy.. you may need to mod crap to work... ive added lots of westy to jetta as westy last longer... but resistor and wiring diferent...
