Timing my motor
« on: December 16, 2013, 10:07:07 am »
I have only had the pleasure of timing a handful of motors over the years, and I am still nervous about doing it. That being said I wanted to see if it is possible to accurately set the timing on my 1.6 idi motor while it is still sitting on my engine stand.

I do have the locking pin for the injector pump, and I also have the plate for the back of the cam. Without the use of the timing mark on the flywheel... is it possible to accurately set the timing.

You can set a TDC mark on the FW...

I second that! Works like a charm. Watching the fluid move in the tube is identical to watching the piston move in the barrel. The great thing is you can leave the head on ;)
