hey i am adding a turbo to a 1y engine 1.9 na. giles pump and a gt15 turbo. at what point do beefed up head studs become necessity? i am not looking to make gobs of power. i figure i would keep boost around 14 psi plus or minus. should i just do it now or not really necessary for lower boost applications?
arp headstuds are on sale right now. 30% off
http://www.eurosportacc.com/collections/mk1/products/2044003would these be the right ones?
i searched and got a bunch of info... maybe too much. seems like everyone has a different torquing procedure and folks use all sorts of fasteners. i saw ford cosworth studs mentioned.
I just did a headgasket not too long ago unwisely used stock hardware. How much boost does a stock aaz run?
Not needed in you application but if you have the money and like to work on your car i say do it, cant hurt. You can put them on 1 by 1 without having to replace the headgasket.
Those are the wrong ones. Should be 204-4706.
Also with a gt15 turbo I don't think you could make enough boost to have head gasket issues. Maybe, but if you do it would be at that point I would put the studs in. If you go with a larger turbo capable of more than 20lbs/min I would look for some studs, but from what I have seen even the .48a/r 60 trim gt15 makes maybe 20lbs/min. So the stock one for VW should be way ok for the factory bolts.
As stated, it will never hurt to add them. I was just trying to offer you a solution if cost was an issue.
ok thanks guys. yeah i'm trying to do a cheaper build but still correctly. working on a small budget so if i don't need them now i'll hold off.
