Wtb MK1 TD AirBox

Or some other airbox that will work with an AAZ swap into a MK1. I would also need a air tube or piping or whatever to go from the turbo to box. The turbo Is a k14. I really need the hosing the most at this point.

Oh I also dont care if it is a mk1 td box or a mk2 at this point. Just need something that will work.

turbo pipe depends lots on the turbo you used... too many different ones..

a carbed rabbit, 75, 76-84 uses same air box.. well damb near same as a td.. so way more of them out there.. go hit up poortex for swallow tail air box.. what they call 75-76 bunnies.. and i know 84 is close to same.. i used 84 box on a conversion long ago..

the guy who put the vr5 in his 75 swallow put the td upper part of the box on a lower swallow.. big oval (td)vs round(carb) for tube to turbo.. but.. will work vs none.. round gives more room by strut tower..

Huh I never noticed carbed rabbits air boxes before. Will have to take a peek. Do dodge omni's that are carbed have similar setups?

honestly.. no idea what omni used for a box...

also.. 84 bunny thats carbed has oil fill cap with a breather built in!! if you had real excessive blow by.. the cap would work as extra breather too..

You could probably find a couple carborated air boxes on eurowerks.org, a Minnesota group, if you can't find one here.

I am really dumb when it comes to custom making stuff and am in the same boat as thread starter.  I tried for months to make it easy on myself and try and buy mk1 setup for my chasis and still I sit here with no luck.  Either I missed the few I have seen go for sale or I simply can't find any.

I had 2 chasis along with mk2 turbo stock parts.  On both I was in a hurry and worried about how to secure things so I stupidly cut a hole in the fender well so I could take the small intake piece apart, and feed through the other side and connect to the airbox to kind of lock it in.  I was thinking it would be better than having something bouncing around into the alternator, etc.

Well I didn't think ahead and during the first big rain I was driving and the car started to stumble.  Took me a minute to see I was ingesting water so I pulled over and drained the box, water past the filter.  Ended up flipping the bottom lid temporary with zip tied to get home, here I am months later and no solution.

I have had a cone filter on my 1.6td rabbit and didn't like the noise at all up front.

Would like to hear how somebody would mod the mk2 setup, probably easier to find for sale to.

I think you just get the mk2 setup and stick it in there.... then bungee strap it to the frame rail or something.

It is barely secured in a mk2. Just the pegs on the bottom and a rubber band is the oem setup.

I just want a box with a filter. Now. I can not believe no body out there has one they could spare.

Yeah I hear like I was saying I have been looking for an mk1 box or the swallowtail box.  Searched and contacted people here, vortex, ebay, thesamba, vwdieselparts.  It sucks when you have money and just want to get something over with

Looking back I probably should have just done what you said but because of the side scoop thing the mk2 box doesn't sit flush and it was kicking out toward the alternator area and I thought that would be a bad decision.

In my 85 jetta though that side tube hooks onto another tube that goes through a housing/hole in the fender well, so seems pretty secure to me.


I have also been thinking out loud and kind of desperate and was wondering what if you were to get whatever id cheap intercooler parts off ebay with bends so you can attach and jog toward the airbox area and put a cone filter on it?

I had one and threw it away, it was on a car I got way back.  I was scared that it might suck up rain in the winter.


Is the id of your turbo the same as the mk2 turbos?

The last one I received came from Albania....seriously. There are parts galore over there.
It was a guy from vortex that was living there for a couple of years because his wife was teaching English. Unfortunately, he is back here now.
There must be hundreds of them available in Can-land (up nort). But, those guys don't seem to share the wealth these days like they used to.
