Thank you all for chiming in! Your information will be helpful.
I recently found a site that lists MK1 engine codes by model:
http://www.mk1vw.info/modules.php?name=Info&op=viewtut&page=1&id=146The list uses the first 2 letters on the engine and tells you what years those engines were used and much more!
Like horsepower, torque, displacement, bore, stroke, compression ratio, etc.
I highly recommend it.
Hopefully I will be
finally bringing home the Quantum this week or next.
Can't wait to have it in my driveway. I have things that need to be done to it!
Can't believe it's been almost a year since I have posted here. Time flies when you get old!
I did bring home the wagon end of last summer, drove fine the 100 miles home. Has some leaks here and there but engine is running great so far.
Had some other cars to work on so it sat until this spring. (Fan is not working so heat is a problem right now)
I have put about 500 miles on it this spring so far. I have quickly realized I am ready/needing pretty much a whole new suspension setup.
Can anyone suggest a vendor they have used and like? Or maybe your favorite brand of coilovers? Or even which ones to stay away from?
i have never seen an 11mm turbo engine. i was under the impression that they quit making the 11mm engines in 1981, 2 years before the turbo model was released. if your crank bolt is 17mm more than likely it is an 11mm engine.
