Fan speed 1-3 doesn't work speed 4 works only..

Got a new fan switch to replace the old one that melted and i still have one of the problems i had before 1-3 doesn't work and the blower resistor was replaced a month ago.

If high works and the rest don't that points to the month old resistor or the wiring to it

Probably the bearings in the blower are seizing,

Replaced the control unit and 1 2 3 still don't work and don't light up the test light but 4 does. Blower feels ok but I don't know what a new one feels like so im going to go to the local vw shop and compare the feel of a new one to mine. Im bad with electrical work.. suggestions? CRS gave me some pointer but still open to more ideas.

ohm meter is what you gotta use next.. gotta test control and control to resistor wires...

I'm thinking sluggish blower blew the thermal fuse on the new resistor.

Replaced the thermal fuse on the resistor and went a picked up a good used blower for 45 bucks all is well and everything works!

FWIW, New blowers don't cost much, and I've gotten mixed results with used blowers... like a year, tops.

I agree though on that count normally i go new but this one looked like it was in good shape and said it came from a 96 and wasn't dusty at all. I figure mine had to be the original from 92 so this one ought to last 4 years if it is the original one from 96. The thermo fuse seems to be what goes on the resistor due to th fan drawing to much when it wears out.

AC blowers are cheap..

non-ac blowers are unobtanium, and spendy..

they also take a special resistor pack..

i spent almost $100 on those 2 parts alone..

I still have a complete non ac setup at the shop. I sold the last one for 300. they are expensive as ***.
