Stranded in NYC, anyone want to hang out?
« on: October 02, 2013, 08:28:39 pm »
My flight was full so I got bumped. I'm here in NYC until tomorrow at 9pm, or possibly another whole day if I get bumped from that flight too.

Text me if anyone lives down here. I think I'm in Queens.

It's a Canadian number so you will get charged for international texting if your plan doesn't have that. You can iMessage me as well.

Hopefully they made you an offer that gave you more than a seat on another plane.  Free tickets, hotel, park bench and paper?

I'm flying standby, this is part of the adventure. Jimmy is taking good care of me though, he got me set up in a really nice hotel on the cheap. He's working today but hopefully we can connect.

I'm not in town, but if you're by LGA, you're a few blocks from the NY Hall of Science, and there is a lot of good Indian food in Queens.

I'm (trying to) fly Delta.

I'll see if I can get to this science hall. I was trying to make it to Central Park but I think it would have been smarter to take a bus rather than walk

If you're heading into Manhattan, subway FTW.

I've become pretty familiar with the subway system. It's actually very effective and reasonably priced. If I get stuck here again tonight I'll hop on the subway and go check out this museum.

It wasn't on my bucket list, but if it was I could now officially cross off sleeping in Central Park on a bench. It was from 8am-10am though so it wasn't sketchy. I had tried to sleep in the airport from 2am-6am but that didn't go very well. Hard plastic chairs are very uncomfortable.

I was able to meet up with Jimmy FDNYGUY (I think it's right). Super nice guy, y'all should come to NYC just to visit him. He showed of his TDI to me, not a bad car at all. I think it's the only VW diesel that I've seen here.

Damn, I missed this post, haven't been online for a few days. I live about a mile up the hill from LGA.

Standby has it's good qualities, and bad, as you've found... good to hear you're making the most of it.

Ok so after missing 3 flights I decided to change my flight to Greece and then buy tickets to Israel from there. I'm now safely at my destination.

If anyone is interested I send out a weekly update about my trip (time permitting). I can't post it on public forums for security reasons but if you want to read about my trip then send me your email address and I'll put you on the mailing list.
