I was talking with one of my friends about it and he thinks that the reason they keep the speed limits to low is so that you are always breaking the law, and thereby giving the police the right to pull pretty much anyone over at anytime.

I abide by the posted speed limit even if it is stupid. While I agree that having silly low speed limits/speed traps is a bit sneaky and underhanded, at the same time, it's a tax on stupidity/unconsciousness which I'm actually all for. It's certainly always possible to abide by the posted speed limit and not doing so is a good way for less conscientious people to fund law enforcement and keep the insurance rates lower for other more conscientious driver's.

What game are you playing and are you winning?

I drive it like I stole it, when it is appropriate. I usually am doing 20km/h+ over the limit (yeah yeah) but never overdrive a road.. conditions, blind corners, intersections, or if it is new to me.. I slow way the hell down and get my hawk eyes on to inspect every possible aspect of the upcoming scenario.
My friends think I drive "crazy" or "radically" or even "dangerously stupid" ....
Funny they have all had accidents, and I have the clean record?

Most all of the time I am within 3mph of the posted speed limit. Testing and tuning sometimes is much more.

I usually play the +10% game. On highways I'll push it up to +20% for fear of being run over. At those speeds I'm still being passed by many so the odds of me getting pulled over are quite low I think.

Exactly, Ontario is a whole different ball game to every where else! We have it worse than BC!

If it was about safety then why are police going nearly double the speed limit to chase down some going 10 over on the side of a busy road. Im sure we have all seen those side of road accidents where someone slams into a traffic stop. Safety.. Don't get me started. You assume a certain amount of risk just driving alone. The amount risk goes up by going 10 or 20 mph over the speed limit is small compared to even pulling out of your driveway in the first place. Its about money plain and simple. The town Im from ran editorial saying if your pulled over you will get a ticket no questions asked because they have quotas that need met.. Why? *i say this all in respectful manner no disrespect*

I used to get lots of middle fingers and dirty looks for maintaining 100km/h on hwy 401 (right hand lane of collectors) here in the GTA.
I now have a bumper sticker reading "RESEARCH VEHICLE - PLEASE PASS"...
I now receive a lot more laughs and smiles as everyone passes by...
Last laugh comes from me - at the pump once per month with my +50MPG 30 year old daily driver.

needs a sticker on libby's... if you think this is slow, wait for the 2% grade... or if you can read this, the road is down hill... make sure to wipe soot off sticker only...
back in 90 well 89-93 i know sc is a place the insurance pays for all the gadgets the piggies use... they in turn raise your rates with each point... they would keep me at 10... at 10 you could do stupid crap.. under 10 points.. hell i had 56 in 55 tickets... fin pigs...

Just cruised an hour and a half up Highway 400 doing an average of 145 (100 highway) the whole way. Everyone else was too, not once was I aggressively speeding past people.

I dislike how the police say they are giving you a speeding ticket to "save your life". For example, my trip to work is pretty much at an 80 km/h speed limit. During "rush" hours, the average speed is 100-110 km/h. I have never seen a cop doing a radar trap during these times - in fact they will drive at the same speed. One night coming home from work at 2 AM with only one set of lights visible coming at me, and none behind - sure enough it's a cop who gave me a ticket for doing 95 in and 80. Slower than normal speed on that stretch when the road is busy. Of course he started blabbing about "slow down, it will save your life." I asked him to give me the ticket and save me the speech for all the reasons above. He actually shut up and just wrote it. It's all about the dollars.

i have long thought this about local common speed traps, most of which i have been ticketed in. for doing reasonable speeds, like 40mph in a 25 which is a long straight road with no hills. there is no reason for it to be that slow other than to ticket people. honestly from what i saw in that video, the canadian speed limits are way lower than here, like ridiculously low.
