WTB: AAZ performance clutch
« on: September 16, 2013, 03:45:03 pm »
sick of having sliping clutches! looking for a kit that will hold 120-140hp. message me what you have, links for new ones will help as well as I haven't been able to find any for sale for AAZ. I don't care for what flywheel it is 1 or 2 pin.

are 8v performance clutches the same as diesel ones? would those work? looking for suggestions.

So long as it is the right size disk, and as well as the right spline for your transmission. Yes, any mk1-2-3 8v clutch setup will work so long as they are also for the 020 transmission.

HP doesn't slip the clutch, torque does.

There is a big spline 020 clutch. I don't know but was thinking it came in the MK3.

I never had issue with my 210mm luk clutch for the aaz. I bought it for around 160.00 came with the throw out bearing, alignment tool, pp, and clutch. I didn't slip it in 10,000 miles probably had around 150hp in the old engine. Don't know how much torque.

Similar to this one...

I run an AAZ with a 16v 020 pressure plate/8v disc (210mm)/ 210mm gas flywheel and have had no problems.

I have an AHU in my mk1 with the 210 8v gas sachs setup. Flywheel, Pressure Plate and Clutch Disk.

I can slip it in 5th gear if I get on the power too aggressively.

so an AHU tranny? and has anyone else done that no issues?

I run a t3 turbo so boost comes on like a snail it slips only 3 gear and up and only sometimes...

Quoted for truth.  And make sure it's a Sachs clutch, as the Luk kits hold a little less than the Sachs kits, which can hold as much as 290-300 ft-lbs of toruqe.

Also, what car is this for?  The 5K?  The beetle already has a 228mm clutch stock, and runs an 02J trans.  The 5K is longitudinal, and I don't know what clutch diameter they use.  Come to think of it, I don't know anything about 5ks or quantums.

I have read the luk kits are better by 10% and trust them fully. Sachs is what I replaced in my mkiv as it was slipping...

You could take my recommendation if you do not want to step up to the 02A. I have ran south bend, luk, clutchnet, and sachs. Sachs is the only brand I have slipped. For an OEM type clutch I fully recommend LUK. For a performance daily I recommend south bend, and for all out performance I recommend the clutchnet or a higher end southbend.

just figured out how to register so I did....was using a friends account tdotdub for my cabrio questions

I have a south bend in my alh and its a monster clutch, I only wish they had one for an aaz.
doing the 16v pp and gas flywheel sounds like the most budget friendly way, so thanks for the website link!

once I do that gotta install that 6.5td gm lift pump I bought, intercool it and call it a day :) the aaz potential is awesome.
