i picked it up last month on ebay , flew out to Winston-salem , NC and drove it home 18 hours.




1998 Volkswagen Passat TDI
AHU Turbo-diesel engine
5-speed manual transmission
179k miles on body, 223k on engine

This car has been excellently maintained and has had the following recent maintenance:
-Timing belt, water pump, etc.
-Lifters
-ALL engine seals, fresh oil change
-Sachs Clutch kit
-Brake hoses (common B5 wear item)
-Fuel & Air filter
-Gear oil
-New Cat converter, downpipe, flex joint
-Rear struts
-Front control arms

This car has COLD A/C, Cruise Control, Sunroof, AM/FM Media Player, and anti-lock brakes. Tons of room for passengers and cargo!


This car has upgraded nozzles and a stage2 tune with immobilizer delete- according to Keith that built it.  


I fixed a few things right away -  ac vent was broken , shift boot was all tore up , installed an Alpine stereo / amp and sub -  replaced the dome light with a newer style - but realized the sunroof switch is different so need to find an older one - i have the newer one installed so the dome light works - but there is no sunroof switch ( its in glove box )  Fixed the stereo antenna as it was cut - so i soldered it and now no stereo HUMMMMMMMM..

Tires are new - receipt in glove box for them a few months ago.  205-55-16

It has a few scratches in the paint - very small dent in hatch -  it looks like a 1998 - still looks decent - in my opinion.

I don't know.   I originally wanted to build b3 wagon tdi.   Then bought this.hoped in a drove it 18 hours

I'm $8k deep.  Not sure b3 wagon worth the same even with my issues on mine...

Car has a few small issues ac being one nothing a slightly more experienced than me mechanic couldnt tackle. Its hooked up and charged it just needs the climate contol unit replaced and a little bit more trouble shot. I have a good used one sourced just need to buy it. I also have a 91 mk2 Jetta turbo d in awesome shape... I saw this b5 on CL and was pretty interested. I drive mine(b3) daily super reliable. Wouldn't hesistate to drive the car to alaska. 200k on body 250k on motor 500 psi compressor on all cylinders.. 12mm libby pump. .216 veg nozzles. audi tt/ mk2 o2j shifter with 42draft design/ verdict motorsports bushings. pd intake race pipe rebuilt k14. FMIC. new tdi/vr clutch.

I don't think could do it straight up. And wouldn't have time to road trip to Louisville again.. Wife would not be happy.  I could maybe meet up in kc.    But would need more details and pics..

man i'd love to make offers but i have 4 cars right now with only 1 running at the moment, and its it great running order so i'm not throwing any wrenches into the mix until i get another car back on the road.  but man i'd love a tdi wagon of any sort.

fixed the dome light...    replaced alpine cd player with a JVC

started right up with the very cold temps we have had the past couple days.
