Hey folks,
Sort of ran across a 82 Sirocco possibly cheap. Was wondering if the 5 speed trans would bolt into my mk1 jetta 1.6td so I could nuke the auto trans?
How much of the drivetain and other pieces are transferable into my Mk1 with the 1.6td
thanks

The same seller has an 82 Rabbit gas engine with a 4 speed. - I suspect everything other then body parts would fit my mk1?
thanks

both mk1... BUT stuff is not bolt direct fit..
tranny, mounts, axles yep same.. rack can swap no prob, shift linkage works.. the shifter its self has a bend to it though..
the hardest part is the pedals.. german vs westy bunny are different.. the brake booster, master and pedals are a match set.. westy bunny then german roccco/jetta/cabby are how they go... if your booster and master are good.. a westy 81-84 pedal set makes the swap easy... if you have never replaced themaster i suggest going german set up as replacement westy masters tend to leak.. with no cure but to change to german stuff..

Just to clarify,
82 scirocco trans\axles mounts will bolt in with out mods.
Pedals maybe?
How much of the 82 Rabbit gasser with 4 speed will fit my mk1 Jetta? I'm assuming everything chassis-wise except for body stuff??
I can probably buy both for $300. Although to be fair, the Rabbit is in pieces, no floor, engine dissembled etc. I'm really looking to strip both and use the parts on my 84 Jetta.

5-speed better...
but westy bunny pedals direct fit if thats what in car... you have to look at how the master bolts to the booster... westy really wide... german not...
that makes the booster different.. and how it attaches to pedal is too.. so those 3 parts gotta match...
tranny, racks direct bolt in fit...

what do westy parts have to do with it? everything u need should be on the scirocco(except the throttle cable), too bad ud be killing a scirocco

especially an 82. i always liked my automatic diesel.

westy pedals, brake booster, master different then german.. gotta swap all 3 pieces to keep them matched... you cannot mix/match those items.. i highly suggest going german... as westy masters replacements suck as the rubber gromment to hold the bottle in place suck and leak... bigger od then stock.. and the little bottle nipple do not keep them from seeping fluid between master and gromment..

was thinking it was goofy auto bunny.. seen ire of them then jettas.. but still.. you gotta look to see if anyone has ever "updated/upgraded/botched the job in the past.. pedals and boosters do break/fail... and junk yards sell things...
all i can say is no way id road trip a auto diesel.. just not meant for substained 65mph speed IMO.. around town.. hr from home.. sure.. but they just feel too wound up at 65 fo rmy likes..

I was driving 120 kph ( abt 72 mph) and it was just humming, a few times during short stretches up to 130 -140 kph and still had some pedal left to go - I just didn't want to scatter anything or get a ticket.
Even at 120 kph, I was getting low 40's mpg ( Canuck gallons of course).
To be honest, for a 29 year old car, I was impressed.

Checked out the scirroco, it is a 82 8v 5speed.
Body is beat
So as you suggested since it is german made (vs US bunny) everything ( trans, pedals and axles) will bolt up to my 84 Jetta.
I won't have to change the steer column or brake master\booster as the pedals will bolt bolt onto my existing steering column and mate with my mastercyl& booster?
Am I right?

make sure they look same,, how bolts to master.. and if same yep bolt rigt in...
you need a 13mm wivel type of snap on socket.. 3 nuts between booster and firewall hold the pedals in.. very tight tolerance... the center tube is ceremaic like.. crack it you will have vac leak.. booster junk at that point... worst part of the job... besides the stupic spring clip on the column... you will hate that...
i suggest reinforcing the clutch cable tube and its cheezy bracket.. they bend/break off.. do that now.. will never be a issue.. look at the spot welds.. i bet they cracked...

Best advice ever...I had to take the column out of the flat red bunny to do this exact thing.
