na pump on td engine???
«

I did a quite extensive search on the different forums online and have found conflicting posts about this topic... Most people seem to say that it will work, but others say that the different breaking points of the injectors will have an impact.
I have a leaking td pump, a spare na pump, and am just hoping to get the thing running again quickly.
I was hoping to just swap out the pump, block off the line going to the aneroid, and get it running so that I have time to slowly tackle the ip myself (if it is just the shaft seal I need) or send it off to have it rebuilt...
I figured people here would have some experience with this, with all of the playing around with ips that you guys have been doing...
Thanks!

It will work, but it won't be as powerful as the TD pump,as you'll have no boost enrichment.

Yes,it will run fine.It will idle the same.Off boost performance will be a little better,as the NA pump fuels a little more.
You could turn the fuel screw up some,as the turbo will allow you to run more fuel, and gain back some performance.

It'll be the rough equivalent of an ecodiesel, FWIW.

NA pump on a TD

I was talking to my local bosch injection pump rebuilder and he said the LDA/aneroid just keeps fueling down when the turbo isn't pumping.
Running with a NA injection pump would cause smoke at lower RPMs, before the turbo kicks in.
If you take off slowly this shouldn't be a problem but if you take off fast there will be a huge cloud of smoke until the turbo kicks in and clears things up.
I think it's the max fuel screw that determines how much fuel you have at the top end ... not the LDA.
I could be wrong but it is a good topic to discuss.

The LDA is essentially a fuel limiter. Running an NA pump on a TD shouldn't cause any more smoke than if it were on an NA engine. The difference is that the TD pump is set up a bit differently. The fuel is set higher so the LDA stops the pump from delivering most of it until the engine is under boost and can take full advantage of the extra fuel. So, you will have no problem running an NA pump other than the reduction in power.
