Custom AAZ camshaft
« on: July 05, 2013, 06:59:47 pm »
Today I did it. Bought a beater (Contour) took my Mk3 off the road. Pulled out cam and paid Geoff at Colt Cams a visit. We talked briefly & decided on a custom grind for my AAZ. He is going to design something that will optimize my engine/trans combo. I have an O2A CTN with a swapped in 0.658 5th. Going for torque & lower EGT's on massive hills my car sees 2x/month. ( long 6-8% grades).

Ya I gave him a "W" cam as well. He's going to see what can be done. Might just go with whole new cam. I'm going to be an experiment of sorts.

If he wants have him contact Burnyourmoney and search here. A lot was done with Dr. Diesel when they made the one for the 1.6/1.9 hydro engines. Lots of measuring.

FWIW the older the engine the more emissions was thought of. From what it looks like the older cams are more desirable. Remembering that mech and hydro cams shouldn't be swapped.

He was talking about checking both, then deciding on AAZ or "W" or whole new billet. Wants to use me as an experiment.
