My vacuum pump is sucking oil from the crankcase and leaking it all over, it also is ruining the diaphrams. I have the plastic piece that sits ontop of the cam shaft(people at the parts place told me this could be the cause, maybe they were just trying to sell me something). Im not sure why it is sucking oil. If i cant fix it can i remove it? I have driven the past 20k miles without power brakes due to all the ruined diaphrams, not having them would not bother me.
Are you sure it's not crankcase blowby that's blowing oil into your vac pump? Worn engines will do this especially if they haven't been modded with an extra crankcase breather. (Check out this forum by doing a search for "runaway")
Didn't need them. I modded the breather and have had no problems since. I recently bought a 1980 Golf diesel that had the factory recall breather fitted. It has a fairly worn engine (poor compression) but it doesn't run away either. If I were you I'd do the modification as when you take the car on a long run at high engine speeds on a warm day I would bet it runs away! Not a pleasant experience!
