Mk2 engine mount discussion
« on: June 13, 2013, 08:03:43 am »
are there any differences between the early and late mk2 diesel mounts?

dropping a TDI into a 90 GTI and im wondering what mounts to go with. i'd use the mk3 subframe from my parts car except its been bottomed out and all the control arms and front crossmember are all bent and beat up.

as its going in now is just the stock gti mounts, and they'll probably be horrible and i'll have to get something better. Just wondering...

As far as engine mount at back of the engine, you're not going to be able to use the stock MK2 or MK3 mount if you want to keep the turbo - I have a vnt turbo and I bought a steel mount online here to the turbo outlet will clear the motor mount.   I'm not sure what your tdi has, but I'm thinking you may have to do the same.

As for the rest of the mounts, you should have no problems between the MK2 and 3.  The early MK2 and later are the same.  My 1.6 td is out of a MK2 86' vintage into a Mk3. everything is the same except the motor mount is a single bolt to the mount on the subframe, where the MK2 has 3 smaller bolts, and the actual mount itself is different as well.  you probably already know that if you have a MK3 subframe.

its a mk3 tdi so its all good, same style rear mount, just mk2 is a 3 bolt, mk3 is a 1 bolt so the turbo is already in the right place

and its not vnt, its the k03

YEP. I have made a few and no one has complained yet. The last one was 1 hole as that is what the customer wanted, but I had to fill the others. The idea is you could take that mount to all the MK2/3 platforms if I leave all the holes in it. That is what I will do from now on as it took some work to fill all the holes that were in it already and make it look good.
