AAZ woes....

Every since I got the truck out of storage this spring, it's started hard, particularly when warm.I get a LOT od fuel smoke, and a rough idle. Seems to pull well, and no odd noises...runs cool...all else OK, but cranks a long time before it catched and belches a cloud of black/blue smoke that smells like you rubbed raw fuel on your nose.
I'm thinking injectors...any ideas?

Any air in the lines while cranking/right after startup?

Do you have a lift pump?  Is your pump timing off?

No lift pump, but I'll be replacing the water pump and timing belt within the next 2 weeks, so we'll see how everything looks then.

Update. We took some things apart and found something had punched 2 holes in the timing belt, and loosened the bottom pulley. That had "worked" some and allowed the timing to go off. All fixed and back to normal now.

Are you running a belt cover?

What sprocket do you have - the TDI "D" style or the tiny key style?

Yes, I am running a belt cover and a TDI pulley. We are still baffled by the problem, but the cure was OK.

So the crank bolt is holding strong?  You remember to add some loctite for good measure? 

Yeah, it's always a good idea to check crevices and such after getting a car out of storage.  Critters like to hide and store things for the winter, and it sounds like one found an ideal hidey hole in your timing belt cover.

I do suspect that the builder (not me) reused the stretch bolt and used too little locktite. However, that being said, the repair is flawless. Now, where can one get good rodent traps
