Radiator core support differences

The bottom core support is from a 92 MK2 Jetta. Not sure what year the top one is from (probably 86) but notice the difference in width of the slots (circled)? There's a piece of bent sheet metal with a screw hole that is inserted through the slot to secure the radiator. Are the core supports interchangeable? Or does it have to go with the correct piece that's inserted into the radiator?

i haven't played with mk2's much, my guess is that its all the same just looks slightly different due to where it was built, mexico, westmoreland, or germany.
