Finally back after 3 years......
« on: May 17, 2013, 07:17:57 pm »
After years of messing with gassers, I'm finally back behind the wheel of a VW Diesel car....

Only took this long because I waited until I could find what I wanted...

Here she is:

1990 Golf GTD w/ (OEM Intercooler!)
250,000km
Price: 800 Euros

Don't have many pictures yet, but will follow up with more.

A few things that need to be dealt with, but for 800 Euros, I can't complain...

Oil Pan leak
Bad Throwout bearing
Leak @ #2 Injector
Steering rack boots bad

Other than that, generally in good shape, very little rust (rare in Germany for a Diesel)

Only questions I have are regarding the injector (it had to be #2, didn't it) it's leaking between the injector and the head, I'm getting fuel and air bubbles, is it as simple to fix as tightening the injector a bit? Also, I won't have time to mess with it for a few days, is it OK to drive like that? It's not leaking badly, just a little wet on the head, around the injector.

Sorry for the noob questions, it's been a while...  ;)

If you pull the injector you need to either install a new heat shield or reform the one in there now.  It may already be to flat to just tighten it down for good measure.  Remember only tighten or loosen the injector by pushing towards the head to prevent the injector boss up front from cracking.

After doin my nozzles and cleaning the threads on the body halves i still had fuel sweating at the threads. I used a touch of anerobic sealant on the threads on reassembly. Did the trick,no leaks anymore
Throttle cables ftw

anerobic sealant?  But they are exposed to the air.  Or were you thinking they were under diesel and thus no O 2 available?

No i meant i put new nozzle tips in my injectors and i kept having the sweating issues between the 2 halves of the injector body no matter how clean i had the threads. So a dab of anerobic on the threads did the trick. There better not be any air in those threads :)
