Ive got a 96 jetta with a TD and the lock is busted on my drivers side door so I have to run over and lock my car from the passanger door. I was wondering if anyone has installed a keyless entry system in their jetta and maybe even a remote starter. I know putting in a remote starter in a manual transmission car is asking for trouble but would be nice. What keyless system did you end up getting and did it come with a wiring diagram? I want to install this myself, I dont really like other people working on my car.
Keyless entry,or even a remote start is possible, but there is a lot of wiring to install it correctly.A professional remote start installation can run as high as $400 if you want all the fancy features hooked up.
As long as the Central locking system works, you just need to tie the lock and unlock trigger wires into it for it to work. The remote starter gets a little more involved, and is not really recommended on a manual trans.
Thats what I though, I have been looking around for just a keyless entry system, everything seems to have remote start as well.
I remember a classified ad on the Vortex,a guy was selling an OEM MKIII keyless entry module for $150.00 with a brand new OEM remote.I think he said he would install it too.
