Hillfolk and his soötyvag
« on: April 24, 2013, 09:43:05 pm »
Why did i wait this long?
I still have my79 tdi m. But its in a million pieces being redone. So i got my dads old rag out and cleaned it up.
That was last year late August i got it roadworthy again, after seeing a roached 4 door with nice wheels back in April. I slapped myself and said: hillfolk u dork look at that guy he is having fun. You are not because you now drive a mk3 tdi  or mk4 vr6.thats not fun.
I got basically the same pics in the "build" thread in be idi section.
This is more of a look back and laugh how it took all summer to get it goin. I missed all the shows and everything. But now its crooooze time. Slow, low, loud and sooty.
Screw those gas monkeys meet DIESEL GORILLA emmer effer.

I used my work truck to get it to the shop.
I put the euro front end and euro m3 taillights on back in 03 so Nya Nya im pissed everyone copied me. Lol

That was fresh off the truck.

Oh this was funny. After this pic i noticed something dragging.
That would be all 3 gas tank straps rotted off thats all.

Throttle cables ftw

Oh that was dad in the pic.  Thanks dad. Dont worry ill give it the love and respect it deserves.
I didnt realize how cool it was when i left i parked in that garage back in late 06.
I was more into mk1s at the time and mk2s were slow and heavy..
This was just a wash off. It was so bad i had to wax then clay bar. The bar just screeched to a halt. Lol.

See? Mk3s are good for something. That something is parts.

Boo hiss  that wasnt nice.

Told ya they are........

 good for somethin.......

So then i went right down to tractor supply and bought new lawnmower wheels.

Throttle cables ftw

Nice axle spacers. I did the same thing except I welded two half inch pieces of plate steel to make 1" spacers.

Oot i dont have a welder that big and it was fairly cheap for a inch thick 8? Inch long piece cut in half and machined. Maybe like 20-25 i paid for the steel. It took the band saw a good 30 mins to go thru it though to half it. I didnt wanna kill the blade i set it light and walked away. Yea its def the way to go on a vw vs wheel spacers. I wanna add in the mk3 beam next. Id like it stripped and powdercoater though.

We just used a mig 140 and went around the outside. Really wasn't looking for strength. Just wanted them stuck together for convenience. The looked like steel smores when done. Lol

Haha i was wonderin if someone would pick that C+C reference up.
Yea the yellow wing is a cub. The silver one is a luscombe

I actually had fun running all new brake lines. This tool is Awesome!!!!
It does most every type of flare you can think of. I was able to he every bend just like the oem lines

Try this with the steel crapola from the parts store.

Oh get that stuff(flaring tool and line) at fuelsender.com

Machining the spacers.

Test fitting the lawnmower wheels: im goin 4 wheelin.

Score! Two fiddy!!

Front markers from BFI: smoked with city lights....had to have em.

I use plain clear bulbs for the normal bulb.
And i cheesed in a "rear foglamp" with a license plate socket and led amber 194 from autozone.
People always say "you have a light out" no i dont. I have one on :)

I had an old foglamp switch so i used it. Position 1 is headlamp city lights.
Position 2 includes the marker citylights and rear fog.

Getting cleaned up

I did alot of stripping and cleaning and painting.

Thats th patch from underneath. I am gonna try to reproduce the undercoating effect.

Its pretty much all buzzed in. I ground down the hard to get areas and left the easy ones.
I wanna drive it.

My rig for getting the gas im sorry diesel fuel tank strap located.
Foil tape and paint stir sticks taped to the ground
Hey it worked great.

Fart pipe? I think not. Farty soot bomb.

Haha yea thats a hard habit to quit after livin in a city for a little while.
At least i figured out how to turn my baseball cap straight again, and i pulled up my pants!! :)
Summer is here and im not missin out. That happened last year. Gotta wash her up

Man the ride is lookin good! Feelin good, got a bad ass car no one can mess with me........
Yes, ok dear........right away,dear :(

My window started winding itself open at idle. So for the 25$ i bought a new regulator.
I've been in the door before but not in 10 years probably.
The only other person was my dad probably 3-5 years before that.
I figured id give him back his screwdriver :)

New regulator installed. The hinge pins will be the next headache.

Doesn't sound like a pleasant job. I don wanna scratch or slip, yikes. I been thinkin a few weeks about making some kind of pressing tool.
About 70bucks American,shipped.

Taking out the regulator i yelled crapola real loud.

So i busted my mig welder out of my back pocket and got to fixin on it and made sure it was fixed on proper:)

Eh its functional thats about it
So after a little wax and a window that works im ready to roll

So i went for a ride
