Don't like the transmission in my mk2 Eco diesel

My Eco diesel has bigger t3 turbo.

In town driving is painful. Espcially on a hill....

I love it on interstate / highway..

I have 16v scirocco tranny..  Is that a better change. Or from my research.  O2a mk3 trans?

My first tank was 30.  Half that was interstate
2nd tank was 35.  Mainly in town maybe 1/4 highway

Almost ready to see what my third tank is gonna. I think it gonna be close to the 30

 I feel like I am always having to get on the gas pedal to merge with traffic.. 

To get out of my neighborhood.  I have to up a hill and typically get on it to keep from getting rear ended by flowin traffi.

This is weird. The original eco trans should have a 4.25 final ratio and my experience has been that around town, it is more performance oriented as it has the engine wound faster, etc. However, I always hated having to shift so much to accommodate the final drive.

On the highway, I always felt is was torture as it had to rev so much to move along. Perhaps you get yer rocks off revving a lot?

Why don't you get under the car and read your code. Should be AVX as I recall.

I did already its the AVX - my car has a Canadian factory remanufactured block - and T3 turbo -  which from what I understand takes a bit to spool -  I just completed my third tank of diesel and it 35MPG again which was mainly around town driving -   it just seems I having to constantly get on it to get out of peoples way ( when I merge or pull out of my neighborhood )

As I mentioned I picked up a 87 16v SCirocco last week for the trans -  do I need to swap out the clutch / flywheel as well?

Might as well make it all new and fresh...

The trans is not your issue.. It is a stock 1.6 ECO pump? This is one issue. It is stock fuel levels and stock boost? This is another issue lol.

I have a turned up 1.6TD with the pump modded for fast fueling to get the turbo spooling.. it still can hardly get out of its own way. You have less fuel, and less boost. It's probably atrocious just because it is a 1.6 with too big of a turbo and not enough fuel and tuning.

I have a turbo pump as well..  This tranny reminds me of old mk1 Gti

5th gear.  Going 45.     I love it on Highway and interstate. But it my daily and kinda driving me nuts

I have a tach cluster I need I install and my boost gauge.  Maybe then I will have a better idea as to what is going on

The AVX should be perfect all over. As it has the high F/D it should be awesome in town, getting rpms up quick as to spool the turbo FAST. You likely spool so fast you pop your waste gate open then and loose all power.

You have a very nice gear spread with that trans as well, no huge jumps between gears.. Not quite the same as the GTI boxes by a fair margin.

If the box feels like a close ratio.. then you probably make great power! My ACN feels like the 2H/4K.. The AVX box has a good gear spread.. and you only run a very slightly higher RPM than those with the much more "desired" boxes.

Maybe I just get to used to driving it differently..   My mk1 callaway turbo had FF box -  I never felt like I had to " get on it " to get out of peoples way....     I feel like I have NO boost going stop light to stop light driving....     when I do get on it -   it is funny how someone behind me moved lanes when I start to roll out the black smoke!!!!!!  When I do give it some throttle..

Definitely sounds like your waste gate is popping early, and the boost is dropping off entirely.

I have an awy in my92. Same thing. Its basically a mk1 gti ratio box. Its too short.
Try 4000 at 65 with my 20 inch tall lawnmower wheels.
A tall 5 gear would be a nice swap. So then u have a close ratio around town and a tall gear for the hiway.
Wow mines an na and i flog it and get over 40 never had a diesel vw get under 40 average.

Now my 7a in my old mk1 jetta td was a very nice wide ratio box. It worked great for the situation.
That was 35psi and a 12mm pump lol. I think it ran low 15s. Def mid 15s at least. (1/4)
