So after spending a few hours trying to work it out i dont think this will work. I bought a b4 passat front cross member and motor mount. I tried to use this combination on my 1.6 idi with no avail. I tried bolting the 1.6 front mount bracket to the passat front motor mount but the old 1.6 front cross member seems to tilt in toward the engine slightly. so I cant use the passat front cross member and motor mount with the idi transmission. Just want clarification.

The engines in the B3/4 chassis sit at a different angle than A2/A3.

I don't think it's going to work, and if it does it will probably eat motor mounts.

why passat crossmmber in a mk2??

the actual mount to crossmember, and bracket for mount to engine same for 4cy.. vr6 different... and 020, vs 02a is different.. hole bolts to starter vs tranny.. but 2 starter bolts in same place..

ive run a old old old mk2 mount set up on my b3 for 13 years now.. its the older mk1 style round style vs the hydro filled and later odd rubber ones..

my mount set up on my kubvan uses mk3 front mount.. top bracket same as mk2 except the starter bolt eye is cast into tranny on 02a in different place.. the 3rd odd ball bolt that some do not reuse.. does not hold starter to th mount per say.. keeps from flexing though..

That's what I was thinking, and to answer your question why, ideally I would like to have my car all set up for the TDI swap in the future. So all I would have to do is drop the engine and tranny in and go. But looks like ill just lug this cross member around with me until then.

Thanks,
Justin

the rad support and front cross member 2 different parts.. people will use roddo rad supports or passat ones to use different rads.. but i cannot say ive heard swapping front mount supports..

even then.. its a big bumper vs small bumper issue as the small bumper will not hide lowering the rad to do this... the lower metal is in the way..

Yes, I do know that they are two different pieces. People need to swap the front cross members and motor mounts to fit the o2j/o2a transmissions that are mated with the newer motors, tdi in my case.

ahhhhh no... take front mount that attached by starter.. remove bolt/nut to mount... change to 02a/02j bracket.. the rubber mount/crossmember not changed...

who ever says you gotta swap the mount/support is full of crap.. unless you go tone of the odd odd odd 85ih only front mk2 mounts that hs a floating mount design.. but if its got a mount with bolt/stud pointing up thru it.. same parts.. just the front bracket where it mounts to 020 and 02j has 1 different spot.. for the anti flex bolt..

the big bumper 91 jetta w/98 tdi conversion i did in 02 that had big bumpers i kept ac and all on it.. big bumper hid how i moved the rad on pass side enough to clear lower rad hose and ac comp with the serp set up.. and i used stock mk2 front mount/support.. and even the mk2 rear mounts..

well the point was to get a new cross member with new motor mount (passat vr6) and keep the mk2 bracket that bolts to the motor via starter bolts while keeping the original 020 mk2 diesel transmission. It does not work due to the angle of the new cross member being different than the angle of the mk2 cross member.
