Project pump question
« on: April 17, 2013, 10:43:26 pm »
So I started putting one pump together out of two, two years ago and 3500 miles away.

I seem to have lost the detent ball and spring on the cold start lever, the style with the idle speed hookup.
If I could possibly beg/pay someone to send me one I might actually get this thing put back together.

Goes in this hole.  I guess I could make one.

My next question is on the governor lever, that may not be the proper name for it.

The early pre-idle tied to CS version has a spring in it, the later one with the idle speed raising
provisions does not.  But I can't tell if it should and it's MIA or if it is by design.  Anyone remember?

This is where the spring isn't..

This is where the spring is on the earlier one.

Anyone ever notice that little spring?

The earlier ones set idle by backing out the throttle stop screw, with the spring in the control lever.

The later ones with the throttle bump set idle by backing out the side arms set screw.

You have a an idle bump lid? and have the idle bump backside advance cover? So you want a small spring to go between lid and control lever as well?

I probably have the outside spring and the inside spring. I'll get back to you on that lol.

I do have the idle bump lid, yes.

The question is though on the governor lever, one has a tiny spring and one does not.
I can't tell if that's by design or if the spring is missing on my later idle bump style governer lever.

I have the spring for between the control lever and the lid, but the backside advance cover has a
detent spring and ball that rides on the arm itself that is MIA, it makes it sorta "click" into position when
you turn it.

When I had my spare 1992 idi pump apart It lacked the internal spring you speak of.

;D  It hadn't occurred to me the idle was set there so I did learn something
from it, but it didn't click that you were talking about the tiny spring IN the
governor lever and not the larger hooked one between the pump top
internal arm and the lever.  Lack of reading comprehension on my part I think.

I do still need the detent spring and ball from the side cover, or I gotta
make one out of something. :)

'Ay, but I was laddy.

The ones with the idle bump have no spring IN the lever, and the ones that don't have the idle bump do have a spring in the lever.
