AAZ HG upgrade on a 1.6TD...help required!!!!
« on: March 27, 2013, 12:24:10 pm »
I am in the process of rebuilding a 1.6TD, code MF.
Since I am putting a AAZ HG on it, I need some advice on the drilling of the extra holes.
I ve read some threads regarding the subject and everyone seems to be talking about drilling the holes on the block but no mention has been made of the head. My question is do I also drill the extra holes on the head or leave it as it is?????
To me, leaving the head untouched and drilling holes on the block doesn't really make sense.
Could someone please HELP??????

My plans are AAZ HG, ARP studs, and a whole lotta boost.

Cheers......

yes, of course you drill the head too.

Also, is it a Hydro MF or a Mechanical MF, you have to do some plugging if you have mech is why I ask.

Some folks don't bother with those holes and seem to get by with it.  I didn't and
saw no adverse effect.  Stock NA mind you..
Many things we do naturally become difficult only when we try to make them intellectual subjects. It is possible to know so much about a subject that you become ignorant.

It's a hydro MF.

So as I understand, I just mark em holes and drill about 1/2" on the block and 1/2" into the head, right????

Your questions are worrying me.  If you don't know what you are doing, then put down the drill and walk away...  Understand, that the cooling system will work just fine without those additional holes which really only assist in coolant bleeding.  If going ahead with the drilling, you drill through the head and block castings into the water jacket, not a specific depth.

Lol. @ libbydiesel.

Appreciate the concern. But I like to think I know what I am on about. One reason I am very keen on the holes is that I live in pakistan, and it gets uber hot in summers here and I ve had cooling issues in the past. So I feel I need all the cooling assistance I can get. I've got a new radiator and a super fast fan.
And I am asking so many questions because VW,s are very rare here, especially golfs. So I do not want to ruin my TD motor.
And I won't do the holes myself. I ll get a professional machinist to do it.
