do the mk2 idis have a fuel tank unit/pump as indicated in the bottom right hand corner here (http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CAR/Volkswagen/1987/Golf/WIRING%20DIAGRAMS/6514.pdf )? Looking at the relay panel it doesnt seem our cars have a fuel pump relay, or is the fuel pumped solely by the IP? I am converting over to CE2 and plan on keeping the original fuel pump/gauge sender wiring.

Mine is a 89 and it dose not have a in tank pump I don't think any of them do. They have a H2O seprator but that is it.

The diesels did not have any fuel pump (aside from the injection pump), which I find strange because other engines equipped with the same injection pump did.

I always figured VW just cheaped out and the fuel tank was close enough to the motor and at such a level that they could get by
without one.

I used that fuse area for powering stuff on the WVO side of my car.  Needed to pump hot water to the rear tank and have some sending unit voltage as well.  All on the key side of the switch.  I used a second one to power the cruise control and I think there is a third available too.

yeah so it seems that there is only one wire running from the top of the fuel tank up to the dash (fuel level  sender) correct?

yep,  and one on the sender that screws to the body of the car for a ground.  It is just a movable resistor really.  Fuel up and you get one resistance low fuel either more or less.  I can't remember what it does for this model.  Gauge needs to match the sender.

bbob has the sender you seek... well its in my driveway... but its his car.. mk2 diesel/gas resistance same.. so direct swap... ill make sure he even sells you the plug...

im alright thank you, i am having no problems with mine i just want to make sure i can wire it up into the CE2 wiring correctly
