1992 VW Jetta 1.6 GL Turbo Diesel

Unfortunately, I need to sell my beautiful ‘92 Turbo Diesel Jetta that has been extensively rebuilt and refurbished. This is a mostly finished car: all of the difficult and expensive engine, transmission and suspension work has been done.  Need to thin the herd, and I have 2 jobs and just don’t have the time to work on it, so it needs to go to a good home where the finishing touches can be performed.  Includes extra parts that have not yet been installed.

Car was originally a 1.8 gasoline GL, but the previous owner had a used 1.6 TD professionally installed in 2007.  Engine and suspension were tired when I got it, so I undertook an extensive rebuilding of the whole car. The car has had it’s motive power category changed with the DMV, and is now registered as a diesel. No smog certificate needed.  Ever.  Fuel and boost are currently set at stock levels for engine break-in.  Car averages 39 to 42 mpg as is.  Over 600 miles per tank.

Factory MK2 diesels were stripped-down base models.  This unique car is the best of both worlds:  It’s a well equipped GL, big-bumper, last year of the MK2’s, with a transplanted turbo diesel.

Car is on eBay now with no reserve, and ends Saturday, March 23.  Check out the listing for a long list of everything new on this car, and for more than 50 photos.  Want it to go to a good VW lover's home.  eBay item # 221200463774.

The EGT probe is post-turbine.  About 10mm after the blades.  I know it's not as accurate as pre-turbine, but plenty of folks are running it this way, it's way easier to add it to the downpipe than drill the manifold and have it crack, and I know not to push it to the limit.

For all those reasons, I decided to do it this way.

Nice upholstery on the Recaros. Did you have it done locally, or was it a leather kit? I have a set going into the Syncro eventually, I was considering doing them in leather.

Really great ride, good luck with the sale!

I had a local shop redo the Recaros.  He custom made new foam, installed my heated seat pads and wiring, and stitched the leather.  They came out sooooo nice.

Auction ends tomorrow, so they will have someone else's butt sitting in them soon...

Looks like it ended up at $5400.  Considering a new car would cost more, and this one looks new, a great buy.  I paid a good bit less for my 96 TDI Passat though, but with way more miles.  In today's market even those are hard to find...
