Well it is looking like a head will be needed. Warping is the least of my problems. Pictures soon to follow.

So unless another solution comes up. I will probably buy that head today or tomorrow. Anyone have any suggestions for things I could do to this used head before reinstalling?

Rebuild your injectors.

You should port it as well if you have the tools.

i have access to all the tools for a valve job... but realism is $200 budget = bolt and go..

sadly you never said it was turbo... dont scrap that head.. the exhaust valves are turbo sodium ones...

that brings up the valve seat but i think its a exhaust one.. and this is a na head with normal valves..

if you run it sootin with tons of fuel/heat this head really is not what you want.. its my "crap im in deep poo" head.. not a got built engine for max power head..

now since i had same thing happen to me back in 07.. any idea why it happened to you??

me i had a blown by pass hose 6mo prior.. never got hot.. but only time i owned it and ran it warm since 02.. i also have it shoe horned in a b3 wagon that was loaded big time on a road trip... not a first time.. but maybe was on last leg.. had over 300k on it..

I feel like if I have to spend over $200 I will be to close to what I can spend to just get a new engine. There is a MK2 TD complete car not too far from me with 118k for $999. There are a number of TDI complete cars for $1000-1500. And a friend has AAZ motors for $800-1000.

Spending $500+ on a head for my unknown mileage quantum motor that I have been running for nearly 3 years that I bought out of some guys shed doesn't make sense.

I promised myself I would never spend $500+ unless it was for a 1.9 be it aaz or tdi.

Why this happened? I dunno. I probably got it hot the other day. I ran it a couple miles with little coolant and no alt belt the other day.... I currently run a blocked wastegate T3 with an injector pump with full shimmed gov. I don't romp on it that often by any means.

Question: Can I run a 1.6 td pump on an AAZ? How about a t3? Would I just use a 1.6 exhaust mani?

does the water pump  depend on the alternator  to spin with your pulley system?

The water pump crank and alt are all on the same belt. Like rabbits. I have a mk1 alt bracket on there.

Ok so... just running through my options here. Can a hydraulic head go on a mechanical block?

If you've got the extra cash on hand right now.. BUY THAT AAZ CAR. You'll get scrap back, or part it out..

You will not be displeased with it by any means. They are an AWESOME engine, even when it was stock in my bro's 84. Even better now with a fully turned up pump ;)!

There is a 1.6 td eco diesel in new hampshire. If the guy gets back to me and I can raise the money I will get it.

Unless a head comes up. Can't believe no one has a td mechanical head laying around on here.

I found one. For the price of free.
The best price. Cam is a little rusty. But I can use my old one. My friend is gonna do some valve seals for me.

Strange at that.  And Good ones to boot!  He just lives right, or doesn't buy lottery tickets and has his luck saved up for stuff like this.

Something like that. But if I had good luck I wouldn't have a cracked head sitting here. :(
Ah well valve seals will be done Monday. And hopefully should have a running vehicle by the end of the week.
