Think what could be done with an ALH transplant. But 100,000.00 is a steal. I will probably own at least 4...lol.

Been thinking tdi hybrid could be done pretty easily with a synchro/Quattro/ 4motion probably wagon for room. Batteries and electric motor running rear diff charged off engine etc. hardest part is setting up computer to tell it all what to do.

261 MPG is cool.  $100,000 isn't.  You can buy 25,000 gallons of diesel for $100,000.  If you bought that car instead of a diesel rabbit for $1000 you'd have the car paid off in fuel savings after driving about seven and a half MILLION MILES!!   :o  ;D

The pricing hasn't been announced yet?

Whatever the cost comparing a new crazy hybrid diesel vehicle to a $1000 mkI is like comparing apples to elephants. What does a 50mpg lexus ct cost?

Here's the 10th paragraph:

Quote
The negative aspect to all this is cost. The XL1 is unlikely to be built in large numbers, and What Car estimates a cost as high as $100,000 or more.

Yes, you're right.  Comparing the XL1 to a Mk1 is a bit of apples to oranges.  Still, the big selling point is the fuel economy and at $100,000+ purchase price with weight and power on par with a mk1 1.6TD I think the comparison is a good one.

OK so we have MK1s that don't quite get the mileage then new one does, nor is a slippery.  But I would so sell it for half of that.
