Hello, I am curious about the electric fan set up I got off the 92 eco diesel in the bone yard. I just picked up the fan set up to put on the turbodiesel engine I pulled from that car about 2 months ago. I notice there are 2 fans but only 1 of those fans has a motor. I am curious how the second fan works, does it just freely spin while driving down the road? I looked in the bently manual but it did not show the duel fan set up. Thanks for the info.
Doug
Are you sure it's not just a fan with the motor built into the hub of the fan, instead of the giant motor sticking out like the stock VW fans? I replaced mine with a subaru fan which has the hub motor, and got an extra 4 inches of clearance behind it.
All of the aftermarket electric fans are also hub motors.
not belt-driven off the other motor is it? never seen that setup myself..
It's belt driven off of the other motorized fan. The belt runs inside shroud.

Wouldn't that be fairly obvious just looking at it?

Yes, unless the belt is missing. Stock fan motor is HUGE!!! I got two hub type 10" electric fans on my rad. There's much more space now but I have to relay them to make the two speed system work properly.

interesting. never seen that set up. is it for air conditioned cars?
My A3 jetta has the belt driven fan setup, and AC.
My 91 Turbodiesel Jetta GL (no AC) in Canada , had that setup. The belt looks like a heavy duty O-ring.
