VE transfer pump re-assembly question
« on: February 18, 2013, 05:05:06 pm »
Question for 8V or any VE pump gurus

I've got the Peugeot practice pump fully disassembled in putting it back together, I am stuck putting the first piece of the transfer pump into the casing (the liner or stator plate- whatever it's called). It's keeps getting hung up in the case because I could not get it to drop in straight. Any tricks to it? Do I have to put the liner in the freezer and the case in the oven?

Coating it in vaseline helps.

Vaseline helps vastly. However you probably have some crap on it, it is a machined to fit perfectly.. so ANY debris will cause it to hang up and gouge the pumps walls. (don't do that. lol)

Also what are you doing in the reassembly stage with a pump that dirty externally?!? If you don't get a hunk of dirt in there I would go buy a lottery ticket.. If you do.. lets hope it doesnt make it to the plunger... OR she no makey injector pop nomore.

I used MMO as a lube. Tried the Vaseline, same thing- hung up in the middle. Used a punch to lightly tapped it in and that did the trick.

What's the torque spec of the 2 phillps screws on the transfer pump plate?

I've got the pump assembled to this stage in pic with the cam disk in place. This is just for practice and once fully assembled, I may disassemble and re-assemble it again for more practice.

On this Peugeot pump, there is only one washer (on the right of pic). That goes in the timing piston to support the spring correct?

On the VW NA 1.6 pump, there were 4 washers. How many washers should be there?

IIRC, the washers are shims that change the amount of compression the spring exerts on the piston - they are added/removed to adjust the pressure/advance relationship.

Yes, they also seem to come in a couple thickness.
