1997 1.9L AAZ DFP 020 transmission. 230,000kms black on black on black. Real nice.
I am looking at purchasing another non-runner/driver for a steal and a half.. However the guys ad says "broken clutch links"..
I message him and ask what he meant by it, apparently his mechanic says its internal to the trans and is gonna be $500 in parts alone. So he's selling cheap.
Now this points me to three things if the clutch pedal itself does not come back up. They are spring loaded on the mk3 are they not? So either that, but the mech says internal to trans so I am assuming he knows his shiiite. The little arm that pushes the throw-out bearing, or the uhh.. whatsitcalled.. the disk the push rod pushes.. brain is floating in beer.. you know what I mean eh?! lol CSRMP5 post here haha.
So gents, I was thinking just replace the whole damn trans.. do the rear main, clutch and all the trans stuff while I am in there... what do you think?

you are looking at the pushrod drilled a hole. Clutch release bearing finger. Or something busted like the PP diaphram springs and it isn't pushing it back. Could be something internal that is real messed up like broken shaft fell on the push rod and wedged it in.
I guess what I am saying is there is no simple fix without pulling the unit. If you pull it and see it is OK then put it right back, if not throw another to it.

For $350 why not
I am probably purchasing it, and then checking the finger first.

if the clutch arm on tranny goes up more then LEVEL.. first pull green cap, arm, look at th efinger.. they break... if no tbroken.. pull clutch rod out from under release bearing.. finger holds that in.. long piece o fwire.. see i fpuinched thru flywheel.. but i assume finger... stealership $$$$$$$$ or place like broke may have a good used one..

Right probably just pull the green cap and see the problem.
Can fix it from there too,..
that is sort of internal but not $500 worth of work.

I think the mechanic quoted him a punched through thrust plate... haha, oh well my gain! Even if it is the thrust plate.. I have one or two. Yes I am cheap as hell.
ps. when did the price of clutch kits go way the hell up!?

mk3 clutch kits = $$$$ vs older 210mm stuff.. but yea 4 years ago went from under 100 to almost 200..

Why are they money versus older 210mm stuff? same components just a bigger spline shaft?? Does not compute.
The release arm
- $15.

single dowel flywheel too.. so pp different... big splines = 020 16v too..
interesting side note... when i took apart the 97 jetta 5 speed, knew this from a 87 gti 16v tranny, 3rd and 4th share spline size on the pinion shaft.. older 5 speeds this is different so cannot mix/match older 5 speed parts/4th gear.. when i was looking at custom gear ratio tranny back in 95 i had a holy 16v tranny for pieces.. saw that on that.. so showed to theman/bbob so they could see..

unless you got older flywheel with 2 dowel.. or remove dowels rembering you better know where tdc is.. dowel to prevent that mix up.. then order older 16v disk, and 16v pp.. i always felt the 16v pp was stronger then a 8v one.. so i guess you should look up clutch kit for say a 87 golf/jetta/rocco 16v..
