I am looking to borrow a pump timing tool set for a 1.6 The stop part the cam part and the dial guage willing to pay shipping both ways.
I'd recommend just buying one, parts place inc had a nice set for 100-150 dollars, which is money well spent as they say if u can not afford to have them, then you definitely can not afford to not have them.
i got my set off a snao-op truck 20 years ago for $20... was some discontinued NAPA set in plastic box, laminated card with instructions, pin, lock, crows foot for pump bolts and all..
so shop around... you do not need new.. love my set... just wish i had the old part number for the set.. wore off long ago before interwebz came to life.. i bet there is a warehouse shipment somewhere... collecting dust... just long lost discontinued kit.. written records lost..
Don't actually need a dial gauge. It is entirely not imperative.
Oh man....here we go with that whole "hillbilly timing thing" again.....two months later he will still be writing in asking why he can't get the car running right. But, why not?
The car is running fine. I just want to check it. 8v-of-fury I have read you coments on pump timing and due tend to agree with you there is a lot of play in the system from the factory and with most of these cars being over twenty years old im shure that play has only gotten worse. I just want to et a baseline of where my timing is now. I am new to VW diesels but have been in the mechanical business in one way or another for over 15 years. I am trying to get rid of some injector knock and a bit of a rough idle
