I have over 9,000 miles on my 1983 1.6 NA MK1 engine since I put it in my '92 ecodiesel a little over five months ago.
I transferred the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, turbo, oil cooler housing with the oil feed for the turbo, oil pan with the oil return line from the turbo, the splash guard for over the cam, the valve cover, cooling hoses, water pump (the MK1 WP was leaking), engine mounts and a few sensors that had different style connectors on them from the MK2 eco engine to the MK1 NA engine. I left NA injection pump on the motor (I think it is 9mm) and kept the 8mm eco IP as a spare. Since the engine was out anyway I put on a new timing belt and tensioner. The only other things that I changed on the engine were cutting the MK 1 passenger side engine mount off, deleting the AC, deleting the power steering pump, and changing the V belts to a single one that powers the WP and alternator.
It runs great and makes a little more power than the eco engine made. I am getting about 51-52MPG with it in the summer / early fall and about 47-48 MPG so far this winter.
