just wondering where you are buying your new mk1 & mk2 vw parts.

Just put an order in with Autopartsway.ca . Prices were pretty reasonable and with $100 bought the shipping is free.

I have lost respect for Autopartsway...

They upped their free shipping from $75 to $150.. did you get a holiday deal to get $100 and free shipping?

EDIT: I just checked them out again, $100 free ground.. Hmm.

changing stuff all the time.. I emailed them to complain, and they told me the $75 for free that I have been taking advantage of for the last 5 years.. never existed...................

I really like buying from Altrom.  The quality of the parts are excellent and the prices aren't bad.  I can buy Altrom parts through Napa since they seem to be a distributor for them.  The last thing I bought from them was genuine Bosch nozzles for a 1.6 for roughly $100 for the set of 4.

i am not a hoser but i am familiar with altrom which is a great line of parts, they carry alot of oem stuff.  i still do work for napa so i buy from napa quite a bit, imc is good stuff too i don't know if u guys have that tho.

I try to buy through the local Napa for the Altrom stuff.  But sometimes find the online store prices a lot cheaper - although I'd prefer to support the local guy.

ie; called for mk1 ball joints, was quoted $50 each, then $22 (off brand) - if I could wait a day. On line I can buy them for $13- 15.

Maybe it was just a new parts guy?

I too commonly deal with local parts place, and I get an added benefit! The guy I deal with is an avid VW die-hard like myself! So I get his discount Nearly 35% off list price.

there is a local parts guy i try to deal with most and i often talk to him about pricing since i used to work at napa alot more, and he is also just a one man show with no store front or anything, but i am always surprised that even with out me beating him up on price he can usually get me a better part for a better price than my napa employee discount.  he basically says the big guys don't know how to deal with the euro distributors properly.  Which is probably why euro cars have such a bad reputation for parts pricing.  And like you said i like dealing with him because he loves vw audi porsche stuff, and will often give me suggestions for the job im planning to do, even when he can't beat someones price i will usually buy from him anyway, support the small guy, but he supports me more than the people at advance auto parts.  that place sucks.  i don't go there unless i absolutely have to.
