Mk1 Engine out - stuff to change or check?

Hey folks,
I've got my engine and trans out of the mk1 Jetta. Know what I'm doing engine-wise ( dropping in another 1.6td)
Just wondering what I should change\inspect on the engine and in the engine compartment ( that would be a bugger to change if the engine\trans was in)
I'm putting poly bushings in the control arms, steering rack, new ball jts, lower stress bar, tie rods(?)
Engine -wise? should I replace the rear engine seal? Stat? waterpump? Glow plugs, timing belt are recent.
Would just rather do it now when stuff is apart.
thanks

All the trans seals! Way easier on the ground, not to mention the ones on the shaft you need to remove the engine from the trans to do

.
Basically a trans service, push rod, and TO bearing. The main shaft seal, the push rod bushing and seal. The flange seals and at the same time the snap rings and ***e for them. Have you considered a LSD kit?

I would do the rear main and depending if you feel up to it while checking the IM shaft bearings I would replace that seal. I wouldn't mess with the front crank seal unless it is leaking currently. Glow plugs I would do with it out, not much better but at least you aren't bending over the car. If it is TD drill out the exhaust for and EGT gauge. Even if you don't have one get a pipe plug until you do. Hard to drill when in the car. Also, depending on climate I would do the block heater freeze plug. Also, I have never riden in an MK1 with really good engine mounts so I would add those to the list while you are in there.

I just swapped an engine from one car to another.
I was in a hurry to get the car on the road, so I did the minimum:
Tranny seals & clutch kit (PP, disk, TO bearing)
Engine rear seal
Intermediate shaft bearings & seal
Water pump, T-stat, hoses
Oil cooler seal
Cam Seal
Glow-plugs
Timing belt
(Engine probably needed a head gasket, so I did that too.)

It's a nice time to rebuild your shifter, and tidy up your wiring harness.

i say the ideas all wrong...
big 5 gal bucket of hot tar.. make sure everything under hood unprotected... wires, fuel lines.. loose nuts/bolts just thrown about...
big tarp under bay... start to throw tar on any/everything... if its color coded wires, make sure to cover it well.. now once you scoop any remaining tar from the tarp.. dont waste just till all used up...
now any loose item.. sand, dirt, feathers, weed... so on.. throw into wet tar... cover well...
let dry and drop engin and all back in...
you can have a chia pet engine bay this way if you want different....

Interesting, -How come? I'm a little hesitant about expectations about the 1.6td & auto match up.
And the wallet & the wife suggest I can't afford to drop in a 5speed.

What kind of ratios are they dealing with? 3.13 FD and a 1.00 3rd gear??
That is really still only 3400 at 120 km/h. Which I get ok mileage at that RPM in the 88.

I don't know haha they suck on the highway. They're alright if u stay around 60-65 but they're really humming along. They just drive nice in my opinion and I still always got 40mpg in it and I used to hammer on it like I always do with my cars haha. I think the fastest I had the balls to go in it was 70-75 but my dad said he did almost 80 in it

No one is going to acknowledge this?
I think mossing your bay is the new rusty hood.

A link for those interested. Lol.
